Gainesville Rotary Club welcomed Cooke County Precinct One Commissioner Gary Hollowell who presented a program on the rise of Texas concealed handgun permits (CHP). The CHP program began in 1996 with 113,000 permits granted. In 2012, there were over 585,000 Texans licensed with concealed handgun permits. “We’re still pro-gun in Texas and I hope we stay that way,” Hollowell said. To receive the CHP, applicants must be at least 21 years old, attend 10 hours of certified instruction and pass a written test. Hollowell is a licensed firearms instructor and a licensed peace officer formerly with the Gainesville Police Department.
