The Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home facility at 602 S. Lindsay St. opened in 1936. But the family-owned business actually dates back to 1899, when founder Geo. J. Carroll arrived in Gainesville to open a funeral home on the east side of the downtown Cooke County Courthouse square. It was later moved to North Commerce Street. Historically, it is known as one of the first modern funeral home establishments in North Texas.
