Leonard Park’s new aquatic center is largely complete, following months of development, but an official opening is now set for Saturday, July 27. Work remains to be completed on the grounds surrounding the pool so that visitors don’t trample mud into the water. City Manager Barry Sullivan said Thursday that the pool, which has a maximum capacity of 365, will be subject to some “soft openings” between now and July 27, such as private parties, so that employees can be further trained at the facility. “This a first-class aquatic center,” Sullivan said Thursday. “We’re taking the time to make sure we have the right assets in there that would create a great time for our children — ranging from toddlers to whatever age person would still enjoy it. There are features for everybody.”
