Special Agent Ken Paith, above, with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Sherman office spoke to the Gainesville Rotary Club Wednesday about the bureau’s mission. FBI Special Agent Jason Rennie was also in attendance. These two agents comprise the Sherman office and have jurisdiction over five North Texas counties. Created in June of 1908 under the leadership of President Teddy Roosevelt, the FBI was originally called the Bureau of Investigation. In the 1920's J. Edgar Hoover established and moulded the bureau into what it is today. Their mission is to protect this country from terrorists, foreign intelligence, locate spies and investigate federal crimes.
