MLK kids

A parade on California Street at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, will help residents celebrate the birthday of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The parade will be followed by a dinner ceremony at Gainesville Civic Center hosted by Gainesville Middle School principal Terry Ashby. This year will mark the 21st MLK parade in Gainesville. In the top photo, children at last year’s parade ride on a float assembled by members of St. James C.M.E. Church.
