Cross Point Baptist Church
Sunday Review
Our message was entitled "Look God controls it all!" The text was Ecclesiastics 3:1-8. God controls birth and death. Only God truly controls life and death. God controls planting and plucking. We are to plow and to sow, but the results are up to God. God controls killing and healing. God allows some to live and some to die. God controls the gathering and casting of stones. God prepares the field for us. We must consider all people as stones to be gathered. God controls our embracing and refraining. Everything we have or have had is really God's.

Come at 8:30 or 11:00 a.m. No, we won’t actually have food, but we will share the story of the day Jesus fed 20,000 people with one sack lunch of fish and chips. Can you imagine feeding the entire city of Gainesville with a sack lunch? We are studying “The Life of Christ” this year at FBC. Join us this Sunday to hear this amazing story!

Our first speaker is Coach Dave Bliss, on September 14. Bliss was the coach at Baylor when a player was killed. Stadium Crusade
Two weeks ago, our student ministry was a part of the Franklin Graham Crusade in St. Louis. 75,000 were in attendance, with 1000 first-time commitments to Christ. While there, Pastor Mark had a private meeting with Will Graham, as we are negotiating to bring the Graham Crusade to Gainesville. The meeting went well, and discussions will continue. This will involve many churches of all denominations. Join us in praying for a Will Graham Crusade in Gainesville!
Grand Avenue Baptist Church
This Sunday
There will be a covered dish meal after the worship service on Sunday to honor Maudell Baker on her birthday. Maudell plays the piano for us on Sunday evenings and we all enjoy the music she makes.
Sunday Review
John Carpenter opened the morning worship with prayer. We wished Barbara Roberson's daughter Kathy a happy birthday.
Al Latham and Tom Allensworth took up the offering as Suzette Carpenter played “How Great Thou Art” on the grand piano.
Brother Bill Black's sermon was the Model Prayer found in Matthew 6:8-15. Jesus pointed out the Pharisees often prayed for public show and Jesus said, "Don't be like them." Also, vain repetitions in prayer are not good. We should be careful to hallow God's name. Barney Strong gave the benediction.
Welcome
Join us Sunday at 600 N. Grand Ave. at 10:40 a.m. and stay for the meal honoring Maudell Baker. We have lots of good cooks at GABC and there will be plenty of food.

In the Gospel from John 6:60-69, the people are again challenged when Jesus said that he was the Bread of Life. While others found this a hard saying, Peter an Apostle chose to follow Jesus, saying: “You have the words of eternal life.”

Sunday Review
Sunday, August 16, service began with acolyte Kaci Garbicik lighting the candles of light, followed by great praise songs, "The Love of Jesus" and "Love Lifted." Dr. Coats' sermon was from James 2:14-16, stepping out on faith.
This Sunday
Sunday, August 23, Dr. Coats' scripture will be James 3:1-12. Come and hear Dr. Coats as he leads us through the scriptures of James.
We welcome our new members, Larry and Connie Glover. They have become very involved in our church. Larry was on hand with the Trustees in power-washing our church buildings. Connie is a member of the Prayer Quilt Ministry. She has brought this ministry to our fellowship by sending prayer quilts to those in our congregation who are ill or having hard times or who have served the Lord in a special way. One was sent to Afghanistan in appreciation of Troy Goodman's service to our country.
The Prayer Quilt Ministry is made up of eight ladies who meet once a month to make these beautiful quilts. Connie started the group with some fabric someone had given her. As the quilts were given out, gifts of fabrics, batting, thread and money were given to the quilters. Connie said it reminds her of the five fishes and three loaves because it just keeps multiplying. The more they give quilts the more love and material is given. Thank you ladies for this wonderful ministry. The quilts are beautiful. As the quilts are given, each member of the congregation is asked to tie a string and say a prayer for the person receiving the quilt.
