Andy Hogue

On Saturday, Lindsay scored 567 composite points in the sweepstakes, with Muenster High School in second place with 355. Saint Jo came in third with 116 points. Valley View scored 115, Era received 57 points and Collinsville trailed with six points.

According to Carol Luttmer, Lindsay’s UIL coordinator and spelling and accounting coach, there were no troubles with this year’s district meet.

“Things went very smoothly — the kids studied hard, and it paid off,” Luttmer said.

Kyra Mann, in her first year as Muenster High School’s UIL coordinator, said Muenster improved its performance this year.

“We got a lot closer to Lindsay than we have before,” she said. “It was definitely soemthing which we were surprised about. I had already called the hotel in Abilene and reserved rooms for regionals. When we came out with more kids than we thought, I thought, ‘Oh no! We have to make more reservations!”

Mann said she coaches prose and poetry, in addition to directing the one-act play. She said this was the first year in which Muenster placed students in all events.
