Gainesville —
The latest retail showcase at Gainesville Outlet Shops comes with a built-in variety of offerings.
The new How Bazaar indoor vendor market occupies 80,000 square feet of space and holds up to 350 vendors — and this is sure to lead to a wide array of product.
Manager Leslie Paul said that since September, the vendor market has become a prime weekend attraction for customers seeking jewelry, clothes, food and arts and crafts in a single location.
Operating days are Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Each week provides a brand new draw, including live music and specialized programs such as “Adopt a Pet,” Paul said. Following a search throughout Oklahoma and Texas, the Gainesville Outlet Mall became the ideal place for this new venture to unfold.
“This mall is a fantastic fit for our venue,” Paul said. “It’s got an RV camper park on site and restaurants already on the property; there’s plenty of space available and good visibility to drive traffic. And so, it just fit all of our needs.”
Paul added that How Bazaar has sponsors such as Ford, Toyota, Kubota, Kawasaki, Polaris, Chili’s and Bass Pro Shops, and frequently serves as a spotlight for their latest products. And each weekend will feature a different food outside the premises; customers will have options such as Italian, Tex-Mex, Asian and Americana items such as burgers and Chicago-style hot dogs.
“That’s all up and cooking,” Paul said. “Every weekend we’ll have a different type of vendor on the marketplace.”
Many of the indoor items for sale are in line with what one finds at a craft fair — art, furniture, homemade jewelry and clothing, and baked goods — and are very similar to what some businesses in downtown Gainesville offer.
Paul suggested that How Bazaar may be a helpful “satellite” site for some of those businesses that need more exposure.
“One of the things we’re looking for is some of the small ‘mom and pop’ stores downtown that are having a hard time driving traffic to California Street to get into the midst of the Gainesville hub,” he said. “and they can use us as an outlet for furniture and antique stores, that sort of thing. They can set up a display up here and have a worker work the booth, and then send people to their main store.”
Vendors can reserve holiday booths now for only $50 a weekend including free electric, wi-fi and parking.
The new market isn’t going anywhere. Paul said How Bazaar opened at Gainesville Outlet Shops during the past two months, and is operating on a lease signed to extend up to a decade.
“We anticipate being here a while,” he said.
