16th annual Halloween Hustle presented by NTMC Foundation set for Saturday

Gainesville — Members of the North Texas Medical Center Foundation remain in preparation for the 16th Annual Halloween Hustle, which kicks into high gear Saturday morning.

Community business sponsors join the North Texas Medical Center Foundation in hosting the Hustle, which has a race warm-up time of 8 a.m. with a race time of 8:30 a.m.

One addition to the foundation’s fundraising efforts is a “Halloween Mini-Sessions” photo opportunity for children dressed in costume. Parents can bring their children to Barbosa Studios at The B Hive in downtown Gainesville from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. For $30, a photographer will make portraits of the children in costume and will provide parents with a pair of 5-by-7 copies, printed on site. A portion of the proceeds go to the foundation.

And according to Kristi Rigsby, race coordinator and executive director of the NTMC Foundation, this year's Hustle will feature a new course for the kids — a Mini-Monster Maze — and will return to an earlier start time.

“Last year we started the race at 9:30 a.m.,” Rigsby said. “This year, by popular demand, we are returning to an 8:30 start time.”

The Mini-Monster Maze is for kids ages 10 and under and will feature a fun course with obstacles and a decidedly Halloween theme.

“This course will be just for the kids — they can run it while their parents participate in the 5 or 10K,” Rigsby said.

Other activities surrounding the race include a Halloween costume contest, safety information from the Gainesville Police Department, Gainesville Fire Department and Cooke County EMS and a hospital open house with education and fun booths.

“The hospital open house really adds to the Hustle," Rigsby said. “The staff puts on a fun event, with games, prizes, tours — all with great health information thrown in.”

Entry forms are available at North Texas Medical Center located at 1900 Hospital Blvd. near West Highway 82, in Gainesville, and will be posted for online access this week.

Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in each division and to the school district and business or organization with the highest number of participants.

The first 500 registrants will receive a race T-shirt.

A $12 entry fee is available for student teams of 10 or more when submitted together.  

Student teams must be composed of students and one adult supervisor.  Parents have the opportunity to register as individuals or with a group of five or more.

Race registration is still available for $30 per person and is available in the NTMC administration office Monday through Saturday.

Packet pick-up is Thursday and Friday, October 25-26, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the NTMC Board Room.
