Gainesville —
Stevens Floor Coverings owner Gary Endres said his business offers enough value with its line of products, and through his expertise, to meet the needs of any potential client.
“We try to ask questions to the customer and get information from them and then it’s up to us to give them the right product for their situation,” he said. “And that’s the key: to get the right thing for their situation so that they’ll be happy.”
The local flooring business began in 1948 under the direction of proprietor Harold Stevens.
It changed ownership hands until 1989, when Endres bought the company and later consolidated its services into a facility at 2626 E. Highway 82 in Gainesville.
His current top-grade flooring product inventory includes Dupont’s durable “SmartStrand” line of carpets plus varieties of hardwood, ceramic tile and vinyl by the Mohawk Color Center company.
The business also provides carpet cleaning machines available for rent and Endres and his staff offer assistance with floor design. Their expertise and hands-on approach lend themselves to a refreshing creative input.
“We help the customer decide all that,” he said. “We put forth some effort. It’s not like you go into the place and you see a bunch of samples but there aren’t any workers around.”
Endres said he visits customer homes himself for floor measurement and quality assessment, and admitted that one product can be perfect for a certain type of home while being completely wrong for another.
“If I go in one house and there’s kids and traffic and all kinds of activity versus one or two people living there, where it’s nice and slow, they don’t necessarily need the same floor covering,” he said. “We just strive all the time for quality, good quality. Because in the long run it’s better for the customer and it’s better for us.”
He added that the key to the long-term success of Stevens Floor Coverings is the actual installation of its flooring products, which he makes available for an extra charge.
“Most people aren’t going to install their own covering,” he said. “I figure all that out ahead of time — what that’s going to cost you. And with that in mind, we’re going to take care of you.”
Endres said he uses reliable, local installation crews who are committed to improving homes in their community.
“They’re really conscientious and they really try to do the best possible job they can,” he said. For information about Stevens Floor Coverings, call (940) 665-0318 or visit www.stevensfloorcoverings.com.
