Gainesville —
Dustin Office Machines owner Johnny Leftwich said his business has enjoyed decades of nonstop success by staying not only better than the competition, but smaller.
In the case of his company, he explained, a small and family-sized operation is the key asset.
Dustin’s staff includes technician Eddy Creswell and office manager Karen Scott. The store specializes in the sale and service of office copy machines, and provides this service in Cooke County and beyond, with customers also branched throughout Wise, Montague and Denton counties.
And while Leftwich takes pride in staying basic, his store’s product quality remains a firm match for competitors. He said the current showcase at Dustin Office Machines is a line of Copystar units: digital “print, scan and copy” imaging systems manufactured by the Kyocera Mita Corporation.
Among other Copystar products, the store currently offers the multifunctional CS 4550ci copier/laser printer, which can be configured to hold up to 7,650 pages and can process up to 45 pages per minute.
It incorporates high productivity and flexible configurations with exceptional imaging and advanced finishing to easily handle both day-to-day document needs as well as more complex projects with ease. Vibrant color technology enables the user to create finished pieces with professional polish, while integrated business applications provide the added power and capabilities to help a business simplify its document workflow.
The business at 105 E. California St. has been a Gainesville staple for eight decades, and was celebrated with an 80-year anniversary ceremony in May. Leftwich himself has been affiliated for 60 years with the Dustin company and its family of the same name.
He began at age 15 as one of the Gainesville store’s employees — and now owns and operates it, and is as rooted in his community as a business owner can be.
“The best thing that we have to offer is being local, and having a local and trained certified technician who handles service for us,” Leftwich recently said, adding that both members of his office supply staff are easy to reach and capable of sturdy customer service. “We’re able to have that personal touch that, for another company, is difficult for them to do.
“We’re small, and we’re still in ‘Small Town U.S.A.’”
