Gainesville — Bosco’s Gym keeps getting better.

The gym, which opened its doors in Gainesville in 1996, continues to improve today even after 16 years of business.

The gym has added new programs, machines and training equipment over recent years, adding to a variety of workout options the Gainesville staple offers.

“We have activities for all ages,” said Sarah Galvan, owner of the gym since May 2011. “Whether you are a teenager or a senior citizen – we have something for you. We have a full fitness gym, dumbbells, machines, cardio equipment – we have something for everybody.”

The gym opened in 1996 in the Gainesville Shopping Center – the shopping center that houses Big Lots, Amigos and Bealls – before moving to a location on Highway 82.

In 2007, the gym moved to its current location at 517 E. Broadway St. – a location that offered more room and a more central location in the city.

A secret to Bosco’s Gym’s success has been the family feel that the workout center offers.

“It’s not uncommon to look out on the gym floor and see members talking to each other and joking around or spotting each other and showing each other how to do something,” Galvan said. “We are more of a family here. People don’t just get their work out in and leave.”

The family atmosphere the gym offers comes from its many years in Gainesville plus the relationship the personal trainers have developed with customers.

“We are a hometown gym,” Galvan said. “You can come in and there is always staff here. They are always going to greet you and be willing to help you with anything you need.”

Bosco’s Gym employs four personal trainers and four aerobic instructors to lead classes and help with personal training needs.

The gym also offers childcare three days a week for moms and dads that are looking to better their fitness outlook.

While the gym has become a staple in the Gainesville community, it is still evolving. The gym has added spin bikes and a class, a rowing machine, three aerobic classes and more in just the last year and a half.

“We always trying to find ways to get better and offer more for people to do,” Galvan said. “That’s something that is important to us.”

Galvan bought the gym from previous owner Scott Green in May 2011. A long-time member and employee of the gym, Galvan said she is happy to help provide fitness needs to the community she grew up in.

“I was always interested in fitness and helping people,” she said. “I want to not only improve strength and stamina in people, I want to improve their lives.”
