Special to the Register

GAVA met Jan. 28 at NCTC despite the bad weather and other conflicts.

Since most officers were not present, the club dispensed with the business meeting. The small group enjoyed as nice dinner of lasagna, salad and garlic bread prepared by Lydia Ansley, Gerri Williams and Olivia Riviore.

The Artists of the Month for February are First State Bank, Oscar Gutierrez; American Bank of Texas, John Hunt and Bob Schafer at Muenster Bank. The artist for Prosperity Bank is yet to be announced.

The hostesses for February are Retha Bond, Darlene Horst and Cindy Westbrook. The meeting is set for Thursday, Feb. 25 at the North Central Texas College Visual Art Building.

Kerry Boutell was introduced by Irene Parker for the program which was Watercolor Batik. She had a group of paintings that she had completed & some that were being worked on. She demonstrated her technique on one of these pieces which was a butterfly. The Watercolor Batik that Kerry uses is similar to the age old technique where melted wax is applied to rice paper & paints are used to add the color. She will also give a workshop in Jan. 30th.at NCTC in the Visual Art Building.

Several members also were at the workshop Jan. 30th. where they enjoyed painting their own Watercolor Batik. Kerry brought most of the supplies so that students could make one of a kind batik painting. Kerry teaches at A Creative Art Studio in Denton. She invited everyone to join her classes.
