Museum prepares for holidays

Staff report

The Christmas season is a busy time for Morton Museum of Cooke County staff members.

The group opened the season with a reception and bell sale in late November.

Museum director Cathy Farquhar said the organization still has some of the ornate holiday bells left.

“The remaining bells are still available at the museum,” Farquhar noted.

The museum will also open for holiday events including next week’s Victorian Stroll weekend.

Staff members also plan to partipicate in the historic home tour set for 4-8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12.

The home tour is sponsored by the Historic South Gainesville Neighborhood Association.

A highlight of the season is the museum’s Cajun Christmas — an event which features a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. and dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17 in the home of Beverly Graham, 203 E. Church St.

Guests can expect a celebration which includes Cajun-style holiday foods.

Tickets for the luncheon are $15 per person.

Dinner tickets are $30 per person.

For information call the museum at 668-8900.

The deadline to register for the Cajun Christmas is noon, Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Farquhar also said the museum is working on its programs for the upcoming year.

A histori quilt show is set for Jan. 26. Quilt historian Lisa Erlandson is scheduled to facilitate the program.
