Special to the Register
A new production of a classic play is coming to Butterfield Stage in May.
Neil Simon’s “Prisoner of Second Avenue” is a dark comedy that follows a New York-based advertising man who goes through all kinds of misery when he loses his job.
The gods seem to conspire against him as he tries to cope with his unemployed status — while being particularly depressed over the fact that he must now subsist on the income of his wife.
Butterfield Stage is currently holding auditions for a cast depicting two middle-aged men and four middle-aged women. The dates for open auditions are March 11 and 12, in the Butterfield Studio Theater. Auditions will begin at 7 p.m. each night and will continue until 9 p.m.
The production will be directed by Sally Page and arrangements can be made for special auditions by contacting Page at (940) 727-8894.
“Prisoner of Second Avenue” is set for presentation on May 9, 10 and 11, and May 17, 18 and 19, on the main stage of Butterfield Stage Playhouse. Tickets go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 18.
To reserve tickets, call (940) 665-1284.
