Love County, Okla. official resigns amid allegations

Cooke County — MARIETTA, Okla. — A Love County Sheriff’s Department official resigned Tuesday following an investigation of embezzlement within his office.

Undersheriff Jason Bone announced his leave and was replaced on Friday by officer Harvey Stewart.

The active-duty activities of Bone, who served under current Love County Sheriff Joe Russell, are now under watch by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) — whose officials refused to disclose the amount of the alleged missing funds.

OSBI members are expected to submit a report to Love County District Attorney Craig Ladd during the next few days.

“We aren’t really finished with it,” OSBI Public Information Officer Jessica Brown said Friday. “OSBI opened the case after allegations of missing money. We’ll present it to the DA during the next week if we can, but it’s still an open case.”

Calls on Friday to the Love County’s Sheriff’s Department and to Ladd’s office resulted in no additional information.
