Texas Comptroller Susan Combs reported Wednesday that state sales tax revenue in February was $2.08 billion, up 3.7 percent compared to February 2012.
Combs will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts their March local sales tax allocations totaling $531.3 million — up 12.2 percent compared to March 2012 — and this includes $532,978 to Cooke County.
“Sales tax revenues continue to grow, but at a more moderate pace compared to recent months,” Combs said in a media release. “The latest increase was led by receipts from the construction and restaurant sectors. Collections from other major sectors such as oil and natural gas-related businesses and manufacturing remain at high levels.”
The payment of $532,978 is a 48 percent reduction compared to the March 2012 payment of $1,034,355.
The local breakdown follows: Gainesville received $483,196, a 44 percent reduction compared to March 2012; Lindsay received $7,273, an 18 percent increase; Muenster received $28,001, an 80 percent decrease; Oak Ridge received $5,391, a 0.55 percent decrease; and Valley View received $9,115, a 32 percent decrease.
The sales tax figures represent January sales reported by monthly tax filers as well as sales by businesses that report tax on a quarterly or annual basis.
