Lions select new officers


Gainesville Lions Club selected their new officers on June 16. Dean Mendenhall was selecte as president, Wayne Dodson as first vice president and Kanita Maxwell as secretary and treasurer.

On Wednesday, July 1, at Neu Ranch, their regularly scheduled meeting place the Lions Club of Gainesville kicked off a new year with Lion President Mendenhall calling the meeting to order with 14 members and 4 guest in attendance.

The guest speaker was Cooke County Sheriff Mike Compton introduced by First Vice President Dodson.

Sheriff Compton spoke to the club about different duties within the department and the operation how cases are handled within the county.. He spoke on the involvement of the officers with other counties. He said he had nothing but praise for his deputies and other personnel in the sheriff department.

Mendenhall distributed to all members goals for the Gainesville Lions Club for the year 2009-2010.

Other announcements by the president was the District Cabinet meeting being held in Mansfield on Saturday, July 25 at the First United Methodist Church at 9 a.m.

The first Wednesday of each month the club has designated funds collected for VISTO.

The Gainesville Lions Club is a club that creates and fosters a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation. The Club’s motto is “we serve”.
