The Cooke County Arts Council met Thursday, July 15 at noon at Gainesville’s First State Bank Conference Center.
Prior to the business part of the meeting, the Arts Council scholarship was presented to Gainesville High School graduate Domanick Hubbard, who plans to pursue a musical theater degree and a minor in dance choreography at Southeastern Oklahoma University in Durant this fall. President Janet Morris honored presented the award, and also present was Kevin Beall, Hubbard’s high school choir director.
In attendance at the Arts Council meeting were Sharon Chapman, Linda Coursey, Janet Morris, Dean Patterson and Phil Schenk.
News releases of the June 15 meeting held with the Gainesville City Council were distributed by Linda Coursey, reporter.
Phil Schenk, treasurer, gave the financial report.
It was agreed the Arts Council would continue its membership with the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce.
The meeting’s main topic was the election of the 2010-2011 officers. It was decided at the next meeting by acclamation. The meeting, also considered the date of the Arts Council’s annual meeting, which will be held Aug. 19.
Members gave reports of activities.
The Gainesville Swing Orchestra will perform at the Austin College Freshman orientation in Sherman on Aug. 29. The Orchestra is also having a recording session.
The Gainesville Area Visual Arts group is getting organized and will resume meetings in September. A meeting on framing and matting is scheduled.
The North Central Texas Chorale will begin rehearsals for its fall concert Aug. 31, at the choir room of the First State Bank Conference Center for the Performing Arts at North Central Texas College’s Gainesville campus. Rehearsals will be Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Chorale will perform the Mozart Requiem.
