Butterfield Stage Theater has a new assistant manager.
Bonnie Friedrich — who recently retired from St. Mary’s Catholic church and school — accepted the position with Butterfield about a month ago.
She said she’ll manage the theater office, coordinate volunteers and use her organizational skills to keep Butterfield running smoothly.
Returning to work after retirement seemed like a logical choice, Friedrich said.
“I felt like I still had some things to do,” she said. “Butterfield Stage was a perfect opportunity.”
Friedrich attended Blinn Junior College in Brenham and Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos. She married Vernon Friedrich on June 13, 1964 in their hometown of LaGrange.
The couple moved to Gainesville where they started a dairy farm in 1965.
Friedrich began her career as a volunteer at St. Mary’s in 1975.
Her work in the parish included increasing responsibility as Friedrich helped see the church through several transitions.
She said the Butterfield Stage board of directors plan to continue managing the theather with her assistance.
“I’ll help keep communication going between ticketholders, Center Stage Circle members and advertisers in our playbills,” she noted.
The new season kicks off in September with Neil Simon’s “Brighton Beach Memoirs.”
Friedrich has long been a fan of community theater.
“I had been to Butterfield plays,” she said. “My grandchildren have been in Butterfield productions and I knew the board members so I just kind of fit in.”
