Museum celebrates 'The Real Thing"

Cooke County — For more than a century, the fragrant essence and delightful fizz of a freshly-opened Coca Cola bottle has delighted millions.

With that in mind, the Cooke County Heritage Society and Morton Museum invites visitors to enjoy the museum’s “It’s the Real Thing” Coca Cola exhibit.  This featured exhibit will be on display until March 31.

Some residents may be unaware that Gainesville was the home of a Coca Cola bottling plant in 1909.

Morton Museum of Cooke County director Jayleane Smith said the bottling company was “a vibrant piece of our economic history until after 1959.”

She said the small hobble skirt bottles looked like toy soldiers marching along the conveyer belt at the Gainesville bottling plant.

“They were filled, capped, and loaded into cases to be delivered to numerous destinations,” Smith said. “This is a must see for Coca Cola memorabilia enthusiasts. Join us Tuesday through Friday for a blast to the past during the “It’s the Real Thing” Coca Cola exhibit.”

The Morton Museum of Cooke County at 210 S. Dixon St. in Gainesville is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
