Hubbard awarded scholarship by Arts Council

Gainesville — Domanick Hubbard, Gainesville High School graduate, was the recipient of a $500 scholarship presented by Janet Morris, Cooke County Arts Council president, at a presentation held Thursday, July 15, at the First State Bank Conference Center in Gainesville.

Hubbard plans to attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant this fall where he will pursue his degree in musical theater and a minor in dance choreography.

Hubbard excelled in school and graduated with honors. A member of the National Honor Society, he has been actively involved in band, the dance team, choir and drama. He has participated in football, basketball and track.

Hubbard’s many accomplishments include making All Regional Band his junior and senior years, All Regional Choir his senior year and State Solo and Ensemble for four years. He was also named Top Dancer at Dance Camp, president of his high school choir and section leader in band and French.

During high school, he performed in 26 drama shows, including “Rent,” “Cats,” “Aladdin” and “Music Man” with North Central Texas College’s drama department, and “Footloose” with Butterfield Stage, in addition to a variety of shows with the Gainesville High School drama department.

Gainesville High School choir director Kevin Beall said, “During Domanick’s four years in school, I saw more growth as a musician than any student I have ever taught.”
