Cities, other entities readying for elections

With the state and national elections out of the way, voters may now prepare to local officials for area cities, schools and other taxing entities, such as hospital districts.
The start date for filing for office was Feb. 7 and candidates may file through March 9 to run in the May 9 elections. The rules and laws governing the May election are set by the state of Texas, and may be found on the secretary of state’s Web site, http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/laws/may9.shtml.
Following is a list of area offices, wards, places and positions for which candidates may file for the May election:
City of Callisburg
Offices up for election include the mayor and two council members. This is an “at-large” election. At large means that all voters can vote for all seats up for election (i.e. when electing five representatives, voters can vote for five candidates). Depending on the system, all candidates may run against one another, with the highest vote getters winning election, or candidates may run for individual, designated seats.
According to the city secretary, no one has filed for any office at this time.
City of Gainesville
Offices up for election include the mayor and three councilors, council member for Ward 1, Ward 2 and Ward 4.
According to the city secretary, no one has filed for any office at this time.
City of Lindsay
Offices up for election include three aldermen seats. This is an “at-large” election.
No one has filed for any office at this time, according to the city secretary.
City of Muenster
Offices to be filled include that of mayor and two at-large council members. According to the city secretary, no one has filed for any office at this time.
City of Valley View
Offices up for election include the mayor, mayor pro-tem, an alderman and an unexpired term for an alderman. The aldermen seats are selected on an at-large basis.
According to the city secretary, no one has filed for any office at this time.
Callisburg ISD
Offices up for election include 2 full term board members and one 1-year unexpired term. This is an “at-large” election. According to officials, no one has filed for any office at this time.
Gainesville ISD
Offices up for election include board members for Place 4, Place 5 and a 1-year unexpired term for Place 6.
According to officials, candidates that have filed for office include: Lisa Bellows for Place 4, Phil Adams for Place 5 and David Moore for Place 6.
Lindsay ISD
Offices up for election include 2 at-large board positions.
According to officials, no one has filed for any office at this time.
Muenster ISD
Offices up for election include 3 board positions, Place 5, Place 6 and Place 7. No one has filed for any office at this time, according to officials.
Valley View ISD
There are four positions open for board members, two regular terms, a 2-year unexpired term and a 1-year unexpired term. According to officials, no one has filed for any office at this time.
North Texas Medical Center
The Governing Board of the Gainesville Hospital District has four seats that are up for election. The filing date is open, but the end date to file for candidacy is March 9. NTMC board will “order the election” at a board meeting. one seat is for 4-years and the remaining seats are four 3-year terms.
According to officials, no one has filed for any office at this time.
Muenster Memorial Hospital
Three board places are up for election.
officials said Muenster Memorial Hospital will be “ordering the election” at the board meeting next week and at the present time, no one has filed for any office at this time.
