CISD new high school vandalized

A particular type of paneling inside Callisburg’s new high school proved it is worth its cost this week after a suspect or group of suspects spray-painted obscene words in the facility’s new gymnasium and on some hallways last weekend.

Callisburg Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Charles Holloway said the use of a wall covering called P-line paneling made clean up much easier.

“Luckily we had put up the P-line panelling. It (the paint) just wipes off,” he said.

Holloway said he isn’t prepared to place a dollar amount on the damage but described it as “just a mess.”

Cooke County Sheriff Mike Compton said his department received a report about the damage around 7:30 Sunday evening from Principal Josh Ballinger.

This isn’t the first time CISD has been a victim of criminal mischief.

The sheriff’s department investigated at least one case of criminal mischief last year. Suspects flooded a Callisburg Elementary School classroom, damaging books, electronic devices and other items, forcing students to relocate to another classroom.

Compton said criminal mischief cases are always unfortunate because they appear senseless.

“It’s a shame,” Compton said.
