Police are investigating an aggravated assault that occurred Tuesday night at a residence on South Grand Avenue.
A suspect apparently struck Marietta, Okla., resident Casey Giourgas, 23, using both his fist and a baseball bat.
An officer said Giourgas complained of an injury to his right eye and pain in his jaw, but after preliminary medical evaluation refused further treatment.
Police Chief Steven Fleming said the two men argued at a residence on Lanius Street earlier in the day. That incident was allegedly fueled by accussations that the estranged wife of one of the men dated one of the victim’s friends.
Around 8 p.m. that night, Giourgas told police a group of individuals approached him at the location on South Grand. One of the group was the man he argued with earlier in the day, he said.
Giourgas said he, three of his friends and the three visitors talked for a while.
“It started out friendly, and then the victim said some of the individuals began cursing at him,” Fleming said. “That’s when he noticed one of them approaching him with a baseball bat.”
Giourgas told police he asked the subjects to leave before the fight broke out. Some time during the melee Giourgas was struck by both a fist and a baseball bat.
Fleming said police are still working the investigation, but that investigators have a suspect in the case.
