Nortex to celebrate 100 years

By AUDREY BROYLES

On June 12, Nortex Communications will be hosting a 100th year anniversary celebrating its service to a number of North Texas communities.

Nortex Communications provides the region with several forms of technology that, according to their web site, make everyday life easier for Texans.

The company provides services for Forestburg, Myra, Rosston, Valley View, Lake Kiowa, Lindsay, Saint Jo, Collinsville, and all of the rural areas in between.

Services provided included; voice, video, broadband internet, and wireless phone services.

Nortex started as a telephone company in Muenster in 1909 then called Muenster Telephone Corp.

According to Carolyn McPherson, the marketing manager of Nortex communications, the company’s first telephone operator, Mrs. J.S. Horne, used the company’s first telephone to call Schenks Drug Store in 1909.

Throughout the years, this small town business sought to change with the times, and along with the changing and developing of technologies, so changed the name. Nortex has steadily progressed alongside the rapid pace of technological advancements, but according to the company's website, they maintain their goal to have local people introduce the latest technology to hometown neighbors.

McPherson has been with the company for seven years, but she said that the President and C.E.O. of Nortex Communications has been serving the company for 60 years. It seems as if Nortex embraces employees who are dedicated to their customers, as McPherson reported that others have been members of the team for over 35 years.

Nortex continues serving the area with communication services and according to the web site, keep the communities of North Texas current in telecommunication technology.

McPherson said, “The company welcomes everyone to their birthday bash on their 100th anniversary.”

“It is our customer appreciation day.” she said.

On June 12, festivities are set at 3-7 p.m.

The celebration is at 205 N. Walnut Street in Muenster.

The party is for all ages. There will be a bounce house for the children, games, contests, and other activities to keep the celebration going. There will be Texas barbeque with all the trimmings, and a chance to win a High Definition TV, iPod, Blue Ray player, or a Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation system.

There will be tours of the Nortex office, and the public can tour the telephone museum to re-visit some of the telephone history, from PBX systems, to crank telephones, to rotary dial phones as well as other communication devices.

A press release said, “Nortex has been connecting people for the past 100 years, so come join in the fun on Jun 12th and connect with them.”
