Gainesville girl chosen to compete in pageant

By NATALIA JONES

Out of 27,000 girls who applied, Brittany Davis, 14, of Gainesville is one of 50 chosen in the state of Texas who will get to compete in this year’s National American Miss pageant.

To be held July 26-27 at the InterContinental Hotel in Dallas, Davis will compete in the 13-15 year-old division. During the pageant, she will be judged in the following categories: formal wear (30 percent), personal introduction (30 percent), interview (30 percent) and community involvement (10 percent).

Other optional contests Davis may compete in include: talent, photogenic, casual wear modeling, spokesmodel, actress, most promising model, volunteer service, miss personality, art, miss spirit, best ‘thank you note’ to sponsor, academic achievement, most ticket sales and best resume.

The crowned National American Miss for the state of Texas will get to represent her state for the following year and return to next year’s pageant and crown her successor. She will also get to visit with the Texas governor for one day, make an appearance with local sports teams, be an honored speaker at the Texas State Fair and participate in parades and other events.

Prizes include a $1,000 cash reward, a trip through the famed streets of Hollywood, a VIP day for two at Disneyland, travel opportunities, a modeling scholarship, an official state crown, a banner trophy, roses and a paid entry fee for the national pageant (to be held Thanksgiving week in Anaheim, Calif. at Disneyland).

Davis who is 5’8, said she decided to join the pageant because she thought it would be good experience for her as an inspiring model.

“I’ve always wanted to go into modeling, even since I was a little baby,” she said.

While she’s not sure yet which optional contests she wants to compete in, she would like to perform in the talent contest.

Also a budding singer, Davis has performed in school talent shows every year. While she said she enjoys most types of music, Davis said she usually performs country songs. Her two favorite country artists include Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood.

Davis also enjoys playing basketball and volunteering at organizations such as the VFW Post 1922, Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter and VBS in Arlington.

“She is one of 50 that was chosen, so it’s a pretty big honor,” said her father, Ken Davis. “She’s an A/B students, attends church, she doesn’t get into any trouble and she’s a pretty good kid.”

Last school year, Brittany Davis attended school in Whitesboro but will go to Gainesville this August since her family recently moved to Gainesville. Davis has three half-brothers and one sister, Tiffany Davis, 11. Already following in her sister’s footsteps, Tiffany Davis said she too would like to try and compete in the National American Miss pageant next year.

Both Brittany Davis and her family would like to thank everyone in Gainesville who has sponsored her pageant. They are: Herzog Medical Clinic, VFW Post 1922, Grand Avenue Haircuts, Fantasy Tattoo, Inc., Lone Star Shooting Supply and VFW Motorcycle Group Unite 3-9299.

However, she is still in need of 10 more sponsors to help fund her trip to the pageant, formal dress and business suit.

If interested in sponsoring Brittany Davis, call 665-8964. To learn more about the National American Miss pageant, visit www.namiss.com.
