Callisburg ISD gets closer to finishing wing

By Amy Sue Hunt

CALLISBURG—Demolition is under way at the old high school building on the north campus of Callisburg Independent School District. The old buildings, constructed in the early 1950s, are being demolished to make room for a new two-story classroom wing.

The construction project began in the summer of 2007 with the demolition of several classrooms to make room for the first phase of construction which includes a new combination cafeteria and auditorium with a fully equipped stage for theatre productions, a new gymnasium with locker rooms, and several new classrooms including arts rooms with a private patio for outdoor art projects, two theatre arts classrooms with dressing rooms and plenty of storage for props and costumes, a journalism room with a sound-proof radio station, and two foreign language or multi-purpose classrooms.

The first phase of construction is scheduled to be completed prior to the start of the 2008/2009 school year so students will be eating in the new cafeteria—a necessity because the old cafeteria was taken down earlier this summer.

The current phase of demolition is projected to be completed within two weeks. Construction on the final phase of the building project, the new classroom wing, is expected to begin soon after.
