Still looking for items

Valorie Blake has announced more items that will be up for bid at the Brewer Benefit Dinner, which will feature a silent and a live auction on Sept. 6 at the KC Hall in Gainesville.

• A baseball and bat autographed by former Texas Ranger Rafael Palmeiro

• Deer hunt on Bob and Donna Doty’s property

• Striper fishing for five with guide and fish fry

• Football autographed by former Baylor football coach Grant Teaff

These are in addition to other choice items that have already been announced.

Joanie Raley, who has been organizing the benefit, can still use more large ticket items, so it’s not too late to give her a call at (940) 736-0977 or 668-7756.

There might be some meal tickets left, Blake said. Inquire at First State Bank.

Proceeds from the Brewer Benefit Dinner will help Blake’s daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Justin Brewer pay off the medical bills they have incurred during the past 11 years after their daughter, Krista, was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 4 months old. Over the years, Krista has been diagnosed with another brain tumor, bone cancer and, most recently, a tumor on her brain stem.

At the Gainesville City Council meeting on Tuesday evening, Mayor Glenn Loch read a proclamation to name Sept. 6 as Krista Erin Brewer Day.

Doors of the KC Hall will open at 5 p.m. with the meal being served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. by Karen Wade. The silent auction will begin when the doors open.

Krista’s Hustle will start on Main Street in Gainesville with pre-registration beginning at 7 a.m. The walk will start at 8 a.m. Charge for adults is $10; students is $5. The first 100 to register will get a free t-shirt. Please call Raley for more information.

A horseshoe tournament is set for 1 p.m. in the Lindsay City Park. Anyone interested in participating should call Steve or Brenda Fuhrmann at 665-9369.

For those who would like to donate money, the Brewer Benefit Account has been set up with First State Bank; 801 E. California; Gainesville, TX 76240 or call (940) 665-1711.

In addition, Belva McClinton has organized a scholarship fund in Krista’s name. For it to be an endowed scholarship, $12,500 needs to be donated. The Gainesville Police Association has put up $500 to start the scholarship. Anyone wishing to donate to the scholarship should contact McClinton at 736-1650. You can leave a message.
