Sivells Bend ISD adopts budget

Special to the Register

During a Public Hearing held Thursday, August 27, the Sivells Bend Board of Trustees adopted a budget for the general operating fund and food service fund for the school year of 2009-2010. The budget presented by Superintendent Phil Newton shows that the general operating budget will be $1,198,892.55, which is $82,557.51 less than the 2008-2009 budget.

The food service budget will be $61,571.65, which is $9,192.99 less than 2008-2009 budget.

The Trustees also set the district’s tax rate at $0.9538/$100 of valuation, which is the district’s effective rate, but is lower than the rate for 2008-2009 which was $0.9624. This rate will keep Sivells Bend ISD below any other district in the county while being the only county that has been paying “recapture” to the state for the past several years.

In other business, after the public hearing was closed, the district approved some amendments to the 2008- 2009 budget. These amendments moved funds from Plant Maintenance and Operation to Instructional Leadership, Co-Curricular Activities, and Data Processing. These amendments were made to cover payroll expenses that were re-coded to incur actual expenses.

All of these items were passed unanimously by Philip Marsh, Rodney Howell, Jason Becker, and Terry Harrell. Ed Johnson, Chad Martin, and Mack Faries were unable to attend.

The next meeting of the Sivells Bend ISD Board of Trustees will be September 15, at 7 p.m. in the school library.
