Morton Museum provides spooky night of fun

NATALIA JONES Register Staff Writer

The Morton Musem of Cooke County will host its second annual Ghostin’ Around Gainesville tour beginning Thursday, Oct. 22.

Those who dare to board the trolley for an evening of spooky fun, will be treated with tales of Gainesville ghost stories. Unlike last year’s Ghostin’ Around, this year’s tour will feature new stops and attendees will actually get to go inside each home and building visited.

“It’s a very entertaining evening of Gainesville legend and lore,” said Jayleane Smith, Morton Museum Ghostin’ Around Gainesville Committee member. “We’re just so fortunate to get the opportunity to use these stops and to be able to go inside each place.”

Although the committee is keeping the locations a secret, Smith said they will be worth the wait. A family friendly event, attendees are encouraged to bring their cameras to try and capture a few Gainesville ghosts.

Also new to the event, attendees can choose from a variety of tours. Traditional tours will be held Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 22-24 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. For those desiring some treats, dessert and dinner tours will also be held Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 22-25. Dinner tours will begin at Amelia’s Attic and will be catered by Sarah’s on the Square while dessert tours will enjoy sweets after the tour at Miss Olivia’s bed and breakfast.

Dinner tours will be held Friday, Oct. 23 at 7:45 p.m., Saturday and Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Dessert tours will be held Thursday, Oct. 22 at 9 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 25 at 9 p.m. Late night traditional tours will also be held at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 23-24.

Those taking either the dessert or dinner tours, will get an extra treat, Smith said. At both Ameila’s Attic and Miss Olivia’s, a costumed narrator will be present to share a spooky tale about each place.

Traditional tours are $15, dessert tours are $20 and dinner tours are $40.Credit card payment will be accepted this year. For more information, contact the Morton Museum at 668-8900.
