Republican women elect new officers fpr 2010

by PAMELA ROBINSON Register Staff Writer

Cooke County Republican Women (CCRW) elected their officers for 2010 During their Nov. 5 meeting.

The new officers are President Pauline Lesch, Vice President-Programs Dianne Helms, Vice President-Membership Sharron Acker, Vice President-Campaign Activities Pam Hoedebeck, Vice President-Fundraising Sharon McCormack, Secretary Christi Klement, Treasurer Marci Gilbert and PAC Treasurer Dorthy Lewis.

The 2010 officers will be installed at next month’s meeting.

CCRW President Sharron Acker said the next event for them is to attend the Texas Federation of Republican Women (TFRW) Convention in Galveston Nov. 13-15.

Delegates to the convention are Sharron Acker, Diane Helms, Susan Hughes, Nenia Kahl, Dorothy Lewis, Sharon McCormack, LaVerna Nasche and Janice Warder. Alternate is Pauline Lesch. Pat Peale will be a delegate-at-large. New member Gloria Coker will attend as a guest.

Acker said the convention takes place every two years.

The Cooke County Republican Women invited Joe Huber, a representative of the National Write Your Congressman organization to speak during the meeting.

Acker said Huber was invited to speak so they could learn more about the organization. She said the organization’s objective is, “To keep the public informed about major bills that are being voted on, the pros and cons and they take the information down to layman’s terms.”

“Basically, we need to be in contact with our congressmen and elected officials,” Acker said. “We are the boss of those people in Washington.”

Acker said Huber asked attendees questions from a constituent opinion ballot regarding President Obama’s health care plan and then asked how the issues presented would affect them.

The questions included:

1) Should employers who do not provide health care be required to pay into the government’s insurance plan?

2) Should employer-provided health care benefits be taxed as income to employees?

3) Should the health care plan provide taxpayer funds for abortions?

4) Should foods low in nutritional value, such as soft drinks, be taxed to help pay for the plan?

5) Should a tax on the wealthy be imposed to help pay for an overhaul of the health care system?

National Write Your Congressman is a bi-partisan organization that publishes updates for a membership fee. For more information on the organization go to www.nwyc.com.
