Valley View ISD, a press release stated, “is proud to announce the naming of William Stokes as the lone finalist for the superintendent position.”
Stokes is currently the superintendent of Lipan ISD.
William Stokes was raised in Stratford, Okla. on an Oklahoma State University Agronomy Research Station. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1972. He is married to Carol Ann Lewelling, also a graduate of Stratford High School. They have one son, Nathan. He and his wife, Kristen, live in Austin.
Stokes attended East Central University in Ada, Okla. earning a B.S. degree in 1975 with a major in industrial arts and a minor in mathematics. He earned a M.Ed. from Central State University in Edmond, Okla. in 1978 with an emphasis in guidance and counseling and pursued post-graduate work in school administration at the University of Oklahoma.
Stokes taught woodworking in Moore, Okla. from 1975 through 1979. In 1979 he moved to Stratford, Okla. where he taught mathematics and served as secondary counselor. He became superintendent at Stratford in 1980 and served in that position through 2000. He served as superintendent in Hennessey, Okla. from 2000-2003 and in Boswell, Okla. from 2003-2006. He retired in 2006 and was named superintendent at Lipan ISD in Hood County.
While in Oklahoma, Stokes served on the State Committee of the North Central Association, a regional accreditation organization. He he was recognized by the Oklahoma Association of Librarians and Media Specialists for his support of quality library/media programs. He is a recipient of the Oklahoma State Superintendent’s Award for Arts Excellence and has been honored as Central State University’s Multi-Cultural Citizen of the year.
He was honored twice as the Central District Young Farmer Association Administrator of the year.
