Gainesville police looking into death

Gainesville — Gainesville police are investigating the shooting death of Ricardo Lopez Mata, 27. Police found Mata’s body around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 600 block of South Weaver Street in Gainesville.

A news release from Gainesville Police Department public information officer Belva McClinton said the officers had been called to the scene in reference to shots fired.

McClinton said Monday no additional information is available on Mata’s death.

Cooke County Justice of the Peace Jason Brinkley was called to the scene and said he ordered Mata’s body sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiners office for autopsy.

Brinkley said he is unable to discuss details of Mata’s death and isn’t certain if Mata was living in the residence where he was found.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the police department at 668-7777.
