Most American’s celebrate the 4th gazing at the fireworks in communal gatherings.
To Mike Musick, it’s the ultimate party of pounding the sky with pyrotechnics and percussion.
Certified by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (BATF), Music Musick’s been performing firework shows for seven years, but his passion for fireworks goes back as long as he can remember.
“I’ve always been ‘that guy’, you know, the one who sets up the fireworks and lights the fuses.” Musick said.
He and his trained crew volunteer their time setting up and putting on the show for Gainesville’s annual Independence Day celebration in Leonard Park July 4.
“Our payment is the rush,” Musick explained.
Accompanied by music the team plans to launch 565 shells during the 18 minute show at a cost of $5,500.
Musick’s team is extremely safety conscience.
Throughout the show, team members take all precautions and wear safety gear, remaining focused and on point until the last shell is ignited.
“That is when we can sit back and smell the smoke.” Musick added.
