The Lindsay Tractor Pull is today and Saturday with antique tractors at 4 p.m. and the main event starting at 7 p.m. on the grounds of the Lindsay Tractor Pull Arena.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Cooke County Fair Association (CCFA) to build the new barn off of Highway 82.
“This is the first tractor pull in quite awhile,” said Cooke County Fair Association member Wayne Becker.
Becker said the Voth family wanted to see a tractor pull back in this area so they brought the idea for the event to association members.
“This should be a good venue with trucks as well and plenty to see and do,” said Becker.
Becker said, “We are expecting a good turnout. The weather should be good.”
Texas Truck and Tractor Pullers Association President Pete Riola said, “this is a good friendly sport.”
Riola said the association has been averaging approximately 35-40 tractors at each event. The tractors are entered in different classes with some tractors sporting from 500-600 horsepower to tractors sporting up to 2000 horsepower engines.
The tractors will pull a progressive sled, which progressively adds more weight to the load the farther it goes. The tractor who pulls the sled the farthest wins.
Tractor entries include “Sod Father,” “Texas Dirt Slinger,” “Small Fry,” “Texas Outlaw” and “Wild Thang II.”
Tractor pulls are popular not only in Texas and the United States, but also in Europe.
The grandstands at the arena seat about 2,000 people and Becker said the CCFA will run the concession stand and the menu will include hamburgers, nachos, drinks and sno cones.
Cost of admission to the grounds is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-10 years old and children 5 and under are free.
The Lindsay Tractor Pull Arena is north of Highway 82. From Gainesville take Highway 82 west and turn north or right on FM 1199 and go about 1 mile. Follow FM 1199 to Sycamore Lake and turn west or left and go about one-half a mile. There will be signs posted on Highway 82 and at Sycamore Lake to help direct traffic to the arena.
