The Gainesville Lions Club had a power point presentation by Past District Governor Tom Westerman of the Colleyville Lions Club about the 14th Annual Sports Extravaganza for Students with Visual Impairments. The event will be held Oct. 19-20 at Nimitz High School in Irving.
This event is one of the many activties sponsored by the Lions Clubs across the country including Gainesville Lions District 2E2. The past district governor remarked that he was hoping the local club will be able to continue supporting this event. The Sports Extravaganza hosts almost 300 athletes ages from young children to young adults up to 22. Some 500 families attend together with over 300 volunteers.
The Mission Statement is "Sports Extravaganza serves to provide opportunities for students with visual impairments to participate in a variety of activities that encourage a more active lifestyle and lead to participation in life-long leisure,recreation, and competitive sports.
PDG Westerman stressed many volunteers were needed to help in showing "Because We Can, Because We Care" when it comes to being involved. The Gainesville Lions Club will continue to support this event as the group has been a "100 percent" Club for several years.
