Cooke County commissioners lifted a burn ban in unincorporated county areas during Monday’s regular meeting.
Fire Marshal Ray Fletcher cited a countywide Keetch-Byram Drought Index number of 605 — a number associated with drought — but said the forecast for the next few months shows enough potential for moisture that a burn ban is currently unnecessary.
“I think our fire conditions are such that we’ll be okay with that,” he said.
Other meeting highlights:
• Commissioners approved a proclamation declaring Oct. 7-13, 2012, as “National 4-H Week.”
• Commissioners approved a proclamation declaring Oct. 7-13, 2012, as “Texas Extension Education Week.”
Commissioners approved these consent agenda items: fiscal years 2012-13 budget amendments; monthly bills; payroll and related expenses; the indigent cremations of Bobby Presley and Diana F. King McGilvray; a voting machine rental service agreement between Cooke County and Era ISD for the Nov. 6, 2012 election; a contract with the Texas Department of Public Safety for the Failure to Appear Program (OMNI); a contract with Woodbine Water Supply Corp. for the installation of water lines on County Road 203; the fiscal year 2012 Asset Forfeiture Report from the District Attorney’s Office; the fiscal year 2013 contracts with Callisburg Volunteer Fire Department, Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, North Shore Volunteer Fire Department and Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Department; a contract with Xerox for the county court-at-law courtroom copier for a 60-month lease; a contract between Cooke County and Texas Prisoner Transportation Division, LLC, for transport of prisoners; the appointment of Katherine Grassman to Place 7 and Frances “Sissy” Gilbreath to Place 8 on the Cooke County Child Welfare Board; an interlocal agreement with Muenster Public Library for library services; sheriff’s office bonds; a donation in the amount of $25 to the Cooke County Library in memory of Nina McCoy Wilson from Todd and Kaye Briscoe King; the renewal of vehicle liability, vehicle physical damage coverage, and general liability coverage through Texas Association of Counties; and a contract between Cooke County EMS and North Central Texas College Nursing Program for educational clinical practice at the Cooke County EMS.
