The 2013 “M-o-o-ving Thru’ the Mud with Landon” to raise money for Hypothalamic Hamartoma (HH) will be held Saturday, May 18 at the Circle N Dairy in Lindsay.
Cooke County resident Landon Tipps has been fighting this disease since birth. After years of testing he was diagnosed with HH in 2009.
The fundraising event, named in his honor, raises funds for research and to help families coping with HH. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the non-profit organization Hope for HH.
HH is a rare benign brain tumor that affects the brain function controlling hunger, thirst, temperature, passion, and hormone regulation.
Now seven years old, Landon has had six brain surgeries and is scheduled for more testing next week.
Tommy and Michelle Neu, owners of the Circle N dairy, have donated a portion of land to be used for the mud run activities.
The mud run is for children ages 4-14 and is non-competitive, allowing them to enjoy themselves as they crawl, run, dive and roll through a range of obstacles and mud pits.
The cost for the mud run is $20 per participant and covers lunch, an event shirt, refreshments and other activities including hay rides, calf petting, and face painting.
Members of Lindsay Volunteer Fire Department plan to hose down the kids to start the clean-up process at the end of the run.
According to his mother Wendi Tipps Landon looks forward to the mud run each year and is already making plans for the event.
“The whole family participates including his father David, brother Houston and sister Addi and other family and friends,” she said.
Landon attends classes at Era Elementary and Tipps said Landon is grateful for all of his teachers.
“When Landon says his prayers at night, he asks God to bless all of his teachers and principal Autry Hardy,” she said. “ He also thanks God for chicken nuggets, one of his favorites.” Wendi said, smiling.
