Gainesville Area Visual Arts Group (GAVA) has opened its annual exhibit in Santa Fe Depot with the theme of “My Town,” according to a recent media release.
The Cooke County Garden Club will also be showing floral arrangements in conjunction with the artwork at the Santa Fe Depot in Gainesville through Oct. 17. Showtimes are 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Several GAVA members have provided paintings for a silent auction on which art lovers may bid. In additionm greeting cards will be available for sale at this event.
The winners of the painting auction will be announced at 2 p.m. Oct. 13, or Depot Day. Bids begin at $50 and may be made in $5 increments. All paintings can be seen at the Santa Fe Depot. The money raised from the silent auction will benefit GAVA’s annual $500 scholarship which is given to a Cooke County graduating senior whose portfolio of work is chosen by GAVA members during spring 2013.
The release added that a free “craft” table will be available for youngsters on Depot Day to create their own Halloween-themed art. Face-painting will be provided for free and a “Halloween Tree” will be displayed for all children to decorate with their creative drawings. There is no charge for this children’s event. At the Depot Day celebration, set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 13, GAVA members will serve hot cider and other treats. For more information, call (940) 372-8176 or e-mail email@example.com.
