"Pampering" was the word of the day at the National Girlfriends Day extravaganza held at the Stanford House in Gainesville Thursday as more than 200 women of Cooke County showed up to shop, get manicures and find out more about local services available for women throughout the area.
Various items sold at the event included scented candles, knitted items, shoes, jewelry, decorated handbags, hats, clothing and anything else that would look good about town.
The North Central Texas College Cosmetology department under the direction of program coordinator Shirley Meek was on hand to provide free manicures at the event.
“We are having a lot of fun today and everyone is enjoying their manicures,” Meek said.
Mary Endres drove all the way from Muenster for the complimentary manicure given to her by NCTC student Emily Bunce.
The event was a family affair for ten year old Bailey Terry of Whitesboro who was manning the Scentsy table with her busy aunt Carla Wilson who was also distributing information about the Whitesboro Health and Rehabilitation facility.
Stanford House director Carolyn Castleberry said her organization has already planned to make “Girlfriends Day” an annual event with many of the vendors already signed up for next year.
“We had such a wonderful turnout today and everyone had such fun,” she said. “We look forward to next year.”
