Marietta, Okla. —
Police haven’t released the name of a suspect being held in the Love County Jail in connection with Wednesday’s robbery at the American Bank on East Broadway in Gainesville.
An officer with the Love County Sheriff’s department reportedly stopped the suspect at mile marker 15 on Interstate Highway 35 near Memorial Drive in Marietta, Okla.
Love County Sheriff Joe Russell said officers found cash inside the suspect’s gray four door Kia. The car had Oklahoma registration.
“He’s more or less admitted being the guy who robbed the bank,” Russell said, adding the suspect may also be connected to a bank robbery Monday in Oklahoma City.
“Gainesville Police Department called us and gave a very good description of the car and the suspect,” Russell said.
Gainesville Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Bobby Balthrop said his department received a call about the incident around 1 p.m.
“The subject entered the bank and demanded money,” Balthrop said in a press release. “He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, and no one was injured in the incident.”
Balthrop noted the FBI is investigating the robbery in conjunction with the Gainesville Police Department.
