Gainesville —
Audition dates are set for the next Butterfield Stage Players production “The Red Velvet Cake War,” set to premiere in early March.
The production is another comedy by playwright trio Jones, Hope and Wooten, and is the prequel to “Rex’s Exes,” a show that had its world premiere at Gainesville’s Butterfield Stage in 2012.
“The Red Velvet Cake War” is another comedy in this series of productions by the playwrights recently presented at Butterfield, including “Dixie Swim Club,” “Dearly Beloved” and “Till Beth Do Us Part.” Set in Texas, “Red Velvet Cake” is about the trials and tribulations of folks in the community of Sweetgum.
The current show requires a large cast of 10 adults, including three men and seven women. These are “open auditions,” so anyone who wants to try out is encouraged to attend at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, and Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Butterfield Stage Playhouse, 201 S. Denton St. in Gainesville.
The production is set to be directed by Sally Page and will be presented on March 7, 8 and 9, and March 15, 16 and 17, on the Butterfield main stage. Call the office at (940) 665-8152 for more information.
Butterfield theater office hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Tickets will go on sale in February, and are $15 for adults and $10 for children. Group rates are available. The ticket office number is 665-1284.
