Thirteen active members and 15 associate members of Cooke County Republican Women joined fellow Cooke County Republicans as delegates and alternates to the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) State Convention in Fort Worth, June 7-9.
Some Cooke County delegates were unable to attend every event of the convention, and as a result, all local alternates who were present had an opportunity to serve as delegates. Counties selected their delegates and alternates at county conventions in April.
Associate member and Montague County GOP Chairman Paul Braswell was elected as chairman of the Senate District 30 caucus. At that meeting, associate member Rena Peden, the current State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) Committeewoman representing SD30, won reelection. Danny Pelton of Hico, Texas, will join Peden on the RPT board as committeeman from SD30. associate member Drew Springer, a candidate for Texas House District 68, was one of many candidates who met and spoke to attendees during the meetings.
Member Pat Peale, vice chairman of the Cooke County Republican Party and Texas Federation of Republican Women District Director for Senate District 30, served as Secretary for the Congressional District 13 caucus. All of Cooke County is now part of CD13, as a result of redistricting. Delegates at the caucus elected Braswell as their first of three delegates to the upcoming GOP National Convention in Tampa.
In General Session, over 6,000 attendees heard from Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Attorney General Greg Abbott, and Comptroller Susan Combs, as well as two state officials who have announced their candidacy for Lt. Governor in 2014: Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples and Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson. Dewhurst and Ted Cruz, candidates for U. S. Senate in the July 31 runoff election, both had an opportunity to address the convention.
Attendees reelected Steve Munisteri as RPT Chairman and Melinda Fredricks as RPT Vice Chairman. Borah Van Dormolen won reelection as Texas Committeewoman to represent Texas on the Republican National Committee, and Dr. Robin Armstrong won a four-person race for Texas Committeeman without a runoff.
Cooke County Republican Women was organized in 1991, and is a member of both the Texas and National Federations of Republican Women. The club supports the Republican Party and conservative principles of government, and seeks to educate its members and the public about issues, candidates, and the political process. CCRW also serves the community through a variety of activities and programs.
