Four local outreach agencies stand to benefit from a donation drive set for Wednesday, Dec. 12.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day, restauranteur Barb Tucker will keep her “Aunt Sweettooth’s” catering truck parked in the lot of Dry Clean Super Center, 1001 E. California St.
She explained Thursday that she’ll accept packaged toys and gifts on behalf of the local ongoing Littlest Angel program; new or used blankets on behalf of Cooke County’s Volunteers In Service To Others (VISTO) program; coats on behalf of the Dry Clean Super Center’s annual coat drive; or a package of new white socks on behalf of recipients of the county’s Meals on Wheels program.
“We’re going to do as much as we can in that period of time,” Tucker said.
In exchange for any of these items, Tucker will provide a free hamburger.
“My main obstacle is to do something good for the community with something I’ve got,” she said Thursday. “I don’t have a lot of resources and I can’t give money to these people. But I can do this.”
Tucker added Thursday that she plans to begin the donation drive with enough burger ingredients to feed 100 people, and if the truck runs out of food before donations cease, she’ll provide vouchers.
“I’m not gaining anything whatsoever except the fun it’s going to be to cook for people who will appreciate it,” she said. “I’m hoping that I can do this at least once a month — to go feed or volunteer some place, or do something.”

Texas’ seasonally adjusted total nonfarm employment expanded by 33,100 jobs in April. Texas added 326,100 jobs from April 2012 to April 2013. The state’s annual growth rate in April stood at 3.0 percent, and has been above 2.5 percent since the beginning of 2012. Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged in April at 6.4 percent. It remains well below the nation’s April unemployment rate of 7.5 percent.

Members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) have announced new recommendations in their continued quest to end drunk driving.
During the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, alcohol is a common theme in many celebratory activities throughout the nation and state, and, therefore, many Texans unnecessarily die in vehicular accidents involving alcohol-impaired drivers.
This past week, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials announced several new recommendations relating to drunk driving, including lowering the national blood alcohol content (BAC) standard from .08 to .05. -
