Gainesville Daily Register
Due to a scheduling conflict with a Monday night event in Gainesville, representatives of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have slightly changed the timing on this week’s scheduled closures on Interstate 35.
As reported Friday, closures will be conducted in order to set the bridge beams at the U.S. Highway 82 bridge over the interstate. The northbound lanes will be closed Monday night, beginning at 8 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. All southbound lanes will remain open Monday night.
All lanes of northbound Interstate 35 will be reopened by 7 a.m. Tuesday. And on Tuesday night, all southbound lanes will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. Northbound lanes will remain open.
TxDOT crews will have all southbound lanes reopened by 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Interstate 35 will be opened up sooner in the mornings if possible. The detour is simple. Motorists will be taken off the freeway at U.S. Highway 82 and re-enter the highway at the next entrance.
Residents may want to avoid the area if possible. As reported Friday, heavy traffic congestion is expected along the frontage road and backing up onto the interstate, since interstate traffic will have to go through the signals at the intersection of the frontage road and the highway. It is also expected that the highway will experience congestion and delays due to the higher volumes of traffic on the frontage roads.
The plan to assist in traffic flow is to put a person at the signal controller at the interstate frontage roads and the highway intersection operating the signals. Turn movements and through movements will still be provided for highway traffic, but the team will place a higher emphasis on keeping interstate traffic moving.
If wind, rain or frozen precipitation move into the area during either night, the work will be rescheduled.
