Gainesville Independent School District officials announced recently the district’s Elementary Academic Team is the UIL District 9-3A champ for the 2012-13 school year.
The 9-3A meet actually took place back on Dec. 18, and Dec. 19, on the Gainesville campus of North Central Texas College and final scoring was completed last week.
A media release explained that Gainesville ISD won the district by a total of 406 points, outpacing Krum ISD with 303 points.
“A clear win for us, wasn’t that close by the end,” said District UIL Coordinator Craig Hertel. “I am very proud of our students, sponsors and coordinators. This just adds to the great things that are happening in this district.”
Lee Intermediate Principal Courtney Stevens said she is proud of the students.
“I think this is just the beginning for GISD as we continue to make progress in all areas of academics,” Stevens said this week. “I am so proud of our teachers as well. They continue to prepare our students to compete at very high levels.”
Chalmers Elementary Principal Tammy Fuhrmann was also quoted, declaring her pride for the accomplishment.
“I am very proud of our students and teachers because of their great efforts as we continue to earn accolades in this school district,” she said.
The following are UIL contest results posted Gainesville ISD elementary students:
4th Grade Art — The team of Jesus Alvarez, Tramera Bynum, Samantha Carlton and Asher Harris won second place. Jesus Alvarez was the second place individual winner. Asher Harris was the sixth place winner.
5th Grade Art The team of Sadhvika Chitoor, Jada Hawk, Maria Mendez and Marina Walterscheid won first place. Individual winners were Sadhvika Chitoor, first place tie; Maria Mendez, third place tie and Marina Walterscheid, first place tie.
2nd Grade Creative Writing — Aiden Kirchenbauer, first place; Melaina Denison, fourth place. Participants also included Jasmin Salinas and Cooper Emerson.
5th Grade Dictionary Skills — The team of Zoe Barbian, Jade Conner, Alexis Henry and Briston Rains earned second place. Individual winners were Zoe Barbian and Jade Conner who tied for fourth place.
5th Grade Listening — The team of Elijah Chisolm, Caleb Neal, Amy Rodriguez and Haylen Sewell took first place. Individual winners were Elijah Chisolm, first place; Caleb Neal, second place and Haylen Sewell, fourth place.
5th Grade Maps, Graphs and Charts —The team of Elijah Chisolm, Landon Prestage, Haylen Sewell and Ryan Wright were the third place team. Individual winner was Haylen Sewell, sixth place.
3rd Grade Music Memory — Winners were Jennifer Garay, second place tie; Desmond Pouncil, second place tie and Robie Dunmeyer, fourth place.Ceci Corona was a participant in the contest.
4th Grade Music Memory — The team of Colby Brasher, Alissa Galaviz and Lily Kemp finished in first place. Individual winners were Lily Kemp, first place and Alissa Galaviz, fourth place.
5th Grade Music Memory — The team of Mason Lorne, Caleb Neal, Amy Rodriguez and Harvey Ruvalcaba finished in first place. Individual winners were Harvey Ruvalcaba, first place; Caleb Neal, fourth place and Mason Lorne, fifth place.
4th Grade Number Sense — The team of Kaitlyn Beane, Colby Brasher, Daniel Buenos-Aires and Pshylla Kemp took first place. Individual winners were Daniel Buenos-Aires, second place and Colby Brasher, fifth place.
5th Grade Number Sense — Participants were Ezequiel Delgado, Alyn Garcia, Luis Garcia and Taylor Skaggs. Individual winner was Alyn Garcia who won fifth place.
5th Grade Oral Reading — Participants were Itzel Gomez, Caleb Neal, Tabitha Roy and Isai Arroyo. Individual winner was Tabitha Roy, sixth place.
3rd Grade Ready Writing — Participants were Desmond Pouncil, Jennifer Martinez, Marissa Andujo and Christy Landeros. Individual winners were Jennifer Martinez, first place and Desmond Pouncil, second place.
4th Grade Ready Writing — Individual winners were Lily Kemp, first place, Jesus Alvarez, fifth place; Caleb McKinney, sixth place.
5th Grade Ready Writing — Participants were Kaitlyn Harbuck, Litzi Moreno and Taylor Skaggs, Taylor Skaggs was the fifth place winner.
5th Grade Social Studies — Participants were Jade Conner, third place tie, Kathryn Creeks, Symphony Kuykendall and Karina Ortiz.
2nd Grade Storytelling — Participants were Za'Kyra Armstrong, second place; Jayelynn Graham; Melaina Denison,, first place and Kaatje Jarrell.
3rd Grade Storytelling — Participants were Jessica McCary, fifth place; Jennifer Martinez; Ariana Yarbrough, sixth place and Sky Davis.
