GHS band members headed to state contests

Gainesville — The Gainesville High School Band recently competed in Solo and Ensemble Contest on February 2 at Sanger High School.  GHS had 14 of their 25 participants receive Division I ratings, the highest rating possible.  8 students earned Division II from GHS in the Solo portion of the contest.  Senior and UNT Music Studies applicant Koby Parks earned a Division 1 rating.  He was also certified to attend the State Solo & Ensemble competition.  Koby, a trombonist, played Cavatine by Saint-Saens.  In the Ensemble portion the GHS Brass section consisting of Junior Alex Huerta, Senior Chance Llano, Senior Kenzee Nickerson, Senior Koby Parks and Junior Javier Salinas received a Division I rating and were certified for State.  The state-bound ensemble performed Largo and Finale from the New World Symphony by Dvorak.   GHS Band Director and recent GISD Teacher of the Month winner Taylor Kami said, “We're very proud of the students.  They've worked hard day to day, and their efforts are paying off."
