Members of the Lindsay Independent School District Board of Trustees met Monday for a regular meeting.
Approval highlights included:
• Board members recognized the cross country and volleyball teams for successful seasons and presented the individual team members with a certificate of recognition.
• Board members unanimously approved the 2012-13 financial audit as presented by Jerry Eastup of the accounting firm Hankins, Eastup, Deaton, Tonn & Seay.
• Board members unanimously approved contracting with Unified ConneXions, Inc. for technology services.
• Athletic Director Charles Boles gave updates on cross country, volleyball and football. He reported the cross country team had runners competing at state, that volleyball finished their season as regional quarter final champions and that the football team will be competing in their first playoff game Friday, Nov. 23, against Cayuga. Basketball season has also started for the high school girls and both junior high girls and boys teams. Coach Boles also proudly announced that all student athletes were academically eligible upon completion of the second six weeks.
• Director of Support Services DeAnne Page informed the board that two additional certificates of deposit had been opened with First State Bank. She reviewed the FAST Rating scores. Lindsay ISD scored a 4.5 out of a possible 5 stars. Page announced gate profits from football and volleyball gates, both of which were in the positive. And $2,300 in gross sales was reported from the new “a la carte” menu that began Oct. 15, in the cafeteria. Page also reviewed updates to the district’s website and reported that beginning Dec. 3, an online time clock system will be implemented for hourly employees.
• Elementary Principal Amber Fuhrmann discussed the upcoming Elementary UIL academic meet, curriculum and physical education activities.
• Secondary Principal Robert Haynes reported on the initial student drug testing that took place Nov. 14. 100 percent of students in grades 9-12 were tested. Haynes said the testing company was very complimentary of the district’s organization and smoothness of the implementation of the plan. Now that the initial testing has completed, a percentage of the total population of students will be tested in future visits.
• Superintendent Nora Curry gave the board updates on the 2011-12 AEIS Report, student drug testing, and district projects. Work continues on the sewer lift station at the baseball/softball complex and some additional roofing leak issues are being addressed.
• Board members approved the date and time of 7 p.m. Dec. 17, 2012, as the public hearing for discussion of the annual report that includes the AEIS report.
• Board members approved the revision to the 2012-2013 academic calendar, changing the bad weather makeup day from Monday, April 1, to Friday, April 19. This was done due to a conflict with an “end of course” testing day in which students would be required to attend class.
• Board members approved the List of PDAS Teacher Appraisers for 2012-13 to include Nora Curry as the third appraiser. Robert Haynes and Amber Fuhrmann were previously approved appraisers.
• Board members unanimously approved to offer a probationary teaching contract to Amber Haynes.

National Transportation Safety Board considers lowering blood alcohol levels for drivers
Members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) have announced new recommendations in their continued quest to end drunk driving.
During the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, alcohol is a common theme in many celebratory activities throughout the nation and state, and, therefore, many Texans unnecessarily die in vehicular accidents involving alcohol-impaired drivers.
This past week, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials announced several new recommendations relating to drunk driving, including lowering the national blood alcohol content (BAC) standard from .08 to .05. -
