ArtWalk to feature top artists

Gainesville —

Members of the Gainesville Main Street Program and participating
merchants of historic downtown Gainesville invite the public to the
upcoming installment of “ArtWalk,” set for 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in
downtown Gainesville, and offering a night of art, shopping and
refreshments.
Attendants can see paintings, drawings, ceramics, wood carvings,
photography and other media from a number of North Texas artists — and
can support the local art community. A press release from the
Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce added that this will be the
second and final ArtWalk event to be held this year.  Local merchants
participating include Amelia’s Attic, Ananas, Chapman’s, Kinne’s
Jewelers, Otts Home Furnishings, Paige Davidson Studio/Cahoots, The
BHive and Wiese’s.
Confirmed artists (as of Monday) set to exhibit their works include
Tony Avila, Jade Conner, Cathy Shepherd, Don Hawkins, Robert Voth,
William Finch, Steve Ladatto, Paige Davidson, Carolyn Rekerdres,
Melinda Hartner, Cassie Barbosa, Cindy Westbrook, Judy Smith, Lana
Wiese and Gerri Williams.  Also, members of the Gainesville Area
Visual Arts organization will present a special exhibit at Amelia’s
Attic.
Carolyn Rekerdres, Cindy Westbrook, Jade Conner, Melinda Hartner and
Paige Davidson will exhibit paintings, and Steve Ladatto, Don Hawkins
and Robert Voth will present hand-turned wood items. Also, Tony Avila
and Cassie Barbosa will exhibiting collections of photographs. Cathy
Shepherd will show newly made pieces of fused glass. And William
Finch, a multi-disciplinary artist who specializes in paint, metal and
wood, among other mediums, will present several items.
Information supplied also added that local painter Davidson’s
landscape pieces can currently be seen in the 2012 continuation of the
TNT television series “Dallas” on the set of Christopher Ewing’s
bedroom in Southfork Ranch.

  • National Transportation Safety Board considers lowering blood alcohol levels for drivers

    Members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) have announced new recommendations in their continued quest to end drunk driving.
    During the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, alcohol is a common theme in many celebratory activities throughout the nation and state, and, therefore, many Texans unnecessarily die in vehicular accidents involving alcohol-impaired drivers.
    This past week, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials announced several new recommendations relating to drunk driving, including lowering the national blood alcohol content (BAC) standard from .08 to .05.
